Barry X Ball: Portraits and Masterpieces, by Giandomenico Romanelli, Gianluca Poldi, Jean-Pierre Criqui and Barry X Ball (Artist)
New York sculptor Barry X Ball makes sculptures that are simultaneously contemporary and classical. Ball uses digital processes to scan both living subjects and historical objects that then get carved in sensuous stone via computer programs, then hand-polished to a luscious finish. This book presents some of his most significant marble portraits of art-world personalities. Freely derived from historical sources, but with revisions and tweaks, these works explore the concept of an enduring and universal sculptural language.
It is in the intermingling of the classical and the Baroque that his extraordinary work and his astonishing itinerary amidst the forms of memory and the desires of time can begin.
