People reading in the subway

This morning, an article about people reading in the subway was published by El País.

This article was more specifically about a X (Twitter) account called @leyendoenmetro that posts daily pictures of people reading in the subway.
The journalist, Rut de las Heras Bretín, was saying that in a time where people are used to doom-scroll every chance they get, some take the time to have a real pause, to relax and open a book
To her, social media are a double edged sword, they help us see the truth (she makes a correlation with the murder of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis that was filmed and created a revolt) but also take us closer to lies and manipulation.

The account, @leyendoenmetro, was described as a breath of fresh air. Seeing people educating themselves, in the subway (of all places), instead of being on their phone, feels great. This account, followed by more than 16 000 people, is also used to recommend some books as only the covers are shown, with the title and the author. In the comment section of each post, discutions are launched on the books, the authors or completely other topics. But it creates a place where people can exchange culture and knowledge.

The owner of the account said that one of his favorite picture is one where we can see an old man reading a book called Iphone 16 Pro User Guide for Seniors and beginners. He also said that to him there is no typical subway reader, some will be more elegant, others more relaxed but what connects them is that they made the choice to open a book instead of taking out their phone.

The journalist finishes by saying that X takes a lot of our time but also makes us connect though account like this one.

To me, people reading in public transport are brave. First of all they do not have motion sickness, which is a dream, but on top of that, they can concentrate enough on the book they are reading to forget everything else and I find that pretty badass. I cannot do that at all. I prefer not doing anything and looking outside the window because I get too distracted while reading. And I am also so scared to miss my stop...

A for X, honestly, since it has become X I don't use it that much but it is, as the journalist said it, a double edged sword. Either you can find people with whom you can share ideas, opinions, knowledge or hobbies, or you can find the worst people this Earth has ever bore. It's either so much love or so much hate, there is no in between.

To finish, I will just say that we need more people reading people in public transport, and just reading, and if a X account can help achieve that then let it be.
