Escape to Nowhere, by Francis S. Jones

Regular price €6.00

The author, Francis S. Jones, was a British soldier (driver) captured during the evacuation in Greece and spent much of the war as a prisoner of war.

The narrative follows his many escape attempts, his travels through Greece, the Greek islands, Italy, and Germany in his effort to make his way home.

Importantly, Jones is a “lone escaper” in many respects — he doesn’t always have the support of an organised escape committee, or benefit from large-scale, coordinated plans (like in some better-known POW escape stories). His struggles are often against odds, terrain, captivity, the winds of luck and the constantly shifting front lines.

This book was published in 1952. This is a first edition. Published by the Bodley Head. No Dustjacket. In good condition. Pages and binding are presentable with no major defects. 267 pages.
