This is a is fully-illustrated book that accompanied a major exhibition at The Frick in New York celebrating one of the world’s great Old Masters and his artistic circle.
The 112-page book opens with a foreword and scholarly essays by experts including Colin B. Bailey and others, and it presents detailed entries on the works drawn from both The Frick’s own collection and the celebrated holdings of the Dutch collector Frits Lugt — especially prints and drawings from the Fondation Custodia.
The publication explores Rembrandt’s art alongside that of his students and contemporaries, offering insight into the dynamics of his workshop and the broader context of Dutch seventeenth-century painting, with iconic highlights such as The Polish Rider, the Self-Portrait (1658), and other masterpieces by Rembrandt himself and pieces by artists of his school.
A foreword by Director Anne L. Poulet is followed by an essay and entries by Colin B. Bailey, Associate Director and Peter Jay Sharp Chief Curator; as well as contributions by Esmée Quodbach, Assistant to the Director of the Center for the History of Collecting in America; Louisa Wood Ruby, Head, Photoarchive Research; Margaret Iacono, Assistant Curator; and Joanna Sheers, Curatorial Assistant.
