This is not a facsimile reprint or a print-on-demand issue. This is the original book which was privately printed in Chicago in 1920.

This book is a collection of the diaries and letters to home written by a young man who was stationed in the Philippines during the Spanish American war.

Eliphalet Huntington Blatchford was born in 1876. He was the youngest son of a prominent Chicago businessman and philanthropist. In 1898 ‘Hunt’ enlisted in the United States Cavalry and was sent to the Philippines, where he remained for the next six months. After his early death in 1905, his sister Frances collected his letters and journals describing his experiences, and the collection was privately published after her death.

“there is another kind of courage, - that of one who hates war, but hates wrong more than he hates war…This was the kind of courage that sent Huntington Blatchford to the Philippines”.

This is a good clean copy with tight binding. There is some staining to the fly leaves and to the cover boards.

The book is over one hundred years old and there is a great sense of history in holding it in one’s hands.
