The ‘Cannibal’ is one of the last commercial sailing ships still valiantly trying to compete in the world of steam.    

The small craft gets into difficulty after setting out from the South Seas port of Suva, heading towards Mexico with a small crew and a handful of passengers, including a missionary, a Russian-Jewish couple, and a planter's widow.

Ernest Gann (1910 – 1991) was an American aviator, author, sailor, and conservationist. He is best known for his novels and memoirs about early aviation and nautical adventures.
