Paris et d’ailleurs is a personal photographic record centered on the French capital by the Paris-born university professor and photographer Michel Paoli; it also includes images of Normandy and other places. A majority of images are previously unpublished.
Michel Paoli's eye records each and every manifestation of beauty it stumbles upon: from the visages of kids immersed in reading to the supine bodies of bathers, from the bales of hay on Tuscan hills to the fleeting legs of Parisian passersby.
This collection of 120 images focuses many on Paris and Montmartre, Les Petites-Dalles and France, and - to a lesser degree - on Italy and other countries such as Brazil.
Michel Paoli's Paris et d’ailleurs is a remarkably intimate photographic retrospective, bringing together thirty years of images shaped by a consistent humanist sensibility. Whether photographing Parisian streets, the Normandy coast, Italian landscapes, or fleeting encounters, Paoli reveals an uncommon attentiveness to beauty in ordinary life. The photographs are united not by subject matter but by a distinctive way of seeing—patient, affectionate, and quietly lyrical—inviting viewers to discover poetry in the everyday. - La librairie Mollat
