Known as ‘The Wicked Uncle’ in the film world because of his monocle and sinister expression, Lord Grantley was Managing Director of Pinewood Studios and Chairman of the British Film Producers Association in the early days of the film industry. He had a reputation as a witty raconteur and mixed with the likes of George Bernard Shaw.
Lord Grantley was born Richard Henry Brinsley Norton in 1892. He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded. In 1943, following the death of his father, he succeeded to the title of 6th Lord Grantley, Baron of Markenfield, a title that he held until his own death in 1954.
