This is a collection of 24 essays by “the most delightful of English essayists”, Charles Lamb (1775 – 1834). Originally published in The London Magazine, Lamb’s essays were very popular, charming readers with their personal and conversational tone.

Among the essays are Blakesmoor in H——shire, which was written about Blakesware in Hertfordshire, a great house where Lamb's maternal grandmother was housekeeper for many years. Old China is a meditation on memory, wealth and poverty and happiness, sparked by a cup of tea in a china cup.

Published by J.M. Dent, London in 1899.
