Warp and Weft, Chain Stitch and Pearl. Textiles in the Ahmanson Collection, edited by Lyrica Taylor

Why is textile as an art medium coming into its own at this time? The reason is obvious. We live in a high-tech world. We communicate via Internet, or cell phone or laptop. We have become distant from the sources of our food, clothing, and shelter. So, in that atmosphere, a high-touch art form has direct appeal. We can touch it, feel it. The work is approachable, human.
Beyond that, textile work is a metaphor for our lives - many strands, seemingly disparate, woven together to make a sometimes surprising whole.
It is hoped that this book makes a small contribution to the growing recognition of textiles as a truly great art form.
